About the Position

As a Project Support Officer, you will be supporting Project Managers in delivering key projects that deliver and sustain critical Defence capability in support of Australia’s war fighters in executing Defence’s mission to defend Australia and its national interests. Your invaluable support to these Project Managers will ensure project success, progressing projects through the various stages of capability lifecycle from strategy and inception through to in-service support and disposal. In doing so you will play an essential role in providing the Australian Defence Force with cutting edge technology and tools to deliver its mission.


The following are the Key Responsibilities of the role:

  • Work alongside Commonwealth project team members, supporting the progress of projects through the One Defence Capability System, including assistance in the development of key documents supporting project clearance through Defence capability gate reviews.

  • Assist with project support tasks including administration and coordination of project activities and documents.

  • Support project reporting requirements at various levels to different audiences, both internal and external to Defence.

  • Provide administrative support to various project workshops.

  • Communicate, respond and provide advice to a range of project stakeholders.

  • Assist with project financial planning, tracking of project budgets including development of key documents supporting Commonwealth procurement processes.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant project management experience

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills

  • Experience in leading teams of various sizes

  • Current or recently suspended NV2 AGSVA clearance OR ability to gain an NV2 baseline security clearance

Desirable Criteria

  • A project management qualification and/or certification

  • Defence experience

  • Be a clear communicator both written and verbally

  • Be a team player with a can-do attitude.

  • Based in Canberra, however there is an opportunity to engage candidates based in either Adelaide, Melbourne or Brisbane
