About the Position

This opportunity is for a Project Support Officer to support the Project Manager to deliver the project in a tight timeframe.

The position is primarily a project support role with responsibility for assisting the Project Manager to manage multiple lines of effort to realise project outcomes. The role will require engagement with a range of stakeholders, both Defence and industry (Systems Integrator and vendors), and development of project management artefacts to capture planned activities, track progress, and articulate risks. The candidate will be expected to manage other contractors working on the lines of effort mentioned above, as well as provide project advice to the Project Manager and other senior stakeholders. Some interstate travel may be required to support project stakeholder acquisition and sustainment activities, working groups, as well as field trials or exercises. International travel may be required to support Army engagement priorities.


Deliverables:

  • Provide efficient support to the Project Manager to manage delivery of the project in accordance with Board priorities.

  • Maintain project management artefacts over the course of the engagement. As a minimum these will include:
    o Project overview summaries (‘dashboards’);
    o A project management plan;
    o A communications plan;
    o Risk register;
    o Intellectual Property Register (IP);and
    o Request for Information (RFI) Register.

  • Support Project Manager communications with internal and external stakeholders. This includes managing a communications plan to inform all stakeholders of the value of a systems approach and coordinating briefings and other events.

  • Support Management of the group mailbox on behalf of Project Manager.

  • Provide administrative support to the Project Manager as required.

  • Provide project, research and secretariat services associated with the project as it progresses through the stages of the project life cycle

  • Conduct research tasks and collate information as required by the Project Manager.

  • Provide secretariat support for meetings and negotiations as allocated in Tasking Guidance

  • Assist the Project Manager in managing the Project Management Office (PMO) management processes.

  • Store all relevant information in accordance with (IAW) information management directions.

  • Collate, synthesise and publish research outputs IAW the project management requirement

  • Draft reports and review general PMO management reports

  • Maintain detailed awareness of schedules and other considerations of dependent projects through stakeholder engagement.

  • Liaise with various stakeholders both internally and externally in order to gather information as and when required to complete tasks.

  • Be prepared to support Systems Engineering Design Reviews and trials as directed by Project Manager.

  • Other tasks directed by Project Manager.

Desirable Criteria

  • Have extensive (greater than five years) experience in project support, preferably with vehicle systems or secure Information Computer Technology (ICT) systems used within the Defence domain. This should include development of project management artefacts as listed in the deliverables section.

  • A detailed understanding of Australian capability development policy and processes.

  • Understands staff processes within Army operational and tactical level headquarters.

  • Familiarity with use and employment of Armoured Vehicles and combined arms tactics.

  • Understanding of how digitised systems can be used to enhance combat capability.

  • Undertake all yearly Defence required updates e.g. Annual Security Awareness, Fraud and Integrity Awareness, WHS Mandatory Training, Work Health and Safety for Defence and Workplace Behaviour Mandatory Awareness.

  • An understanding of Defence Security Principles Framework.
