The project is seeking to develop a dedicated workforce to deliver project outcomes. It is crucial for the commercial and organisational frameworks to be carefully designed to set up the project for success over the future of the capability.

Description

Within the Program and/or Project Director function a Strategic Business Advisor works with considerable independence and is accountable to perform and achieve very complex program and/or project management duties within an integrated workforce. They require extensive knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

A Strategic Business Advisor is responsible for influencing and developing strategies, priorities and operational practices in support of Defence objectives based on high level decision making and judgement. They will provide strategic advice to senior leadership and stakeholders as well as leading and assuming accountability for very complex work that has strategic, political and/or operational significance.

A Strategic Business Advisor is accountable to lead a work team or teams, plan and manage a range of human and physical resources and exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities. They will provide strategic direction to the work unit, including developing business plans, strategies and priorities and monitor workflow and performance. They will set work aligned with strategic objectives and communicate expected outcomes.

A Strategic Business Advisor will have extensive knowledge relating to the methodology, systems and procedures within the Program and/or Project Director function and can translate this into strategy. They will provide a strategic level of specialist, professional and technical expertise, potentially relating to the work of different functional areas. They are required to initiate, establish and maintain strong trusted relationships with a network of stakeholders internally and externally and can recognise shared agendas and work toward mutually beneficial outcomes.

Essential Criteria
  • Accountable for providing direction to ensure a high-level of integration and consistency in the management of projects and products within Defence Capability Programs

  • Managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioral standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people

  • Accountable for the development, implementation and monitoring of program strategies, plans and risks, enabling delivery and reporting on the requirements and expectations of the management of Defence assets

  • Provide strategic direction and clearly articulate goals to achieve program, project and product objectives in accordance with Defence policies and procedures

  • Build and sustain productive working relationships between Defence groups, and industry to support Defence Capability Program

  • Engage, negotiate and sustain working relationships on very complex issues to understand and influence the stakeholder requirements

  • Analyse and implement program management options that achieve optimal use of Defence assets
